According to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for RNs nationwide is $70,000, while for LPNs it's $45,030. You may be wondering, in which states can I do better than that, and what will my expenses be? Here at EasyNCLEX.com we sorted through the data to find the best states for nurses.
The study was conducted based on the median salaries of two types of nurses: Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). We compared the salary information for each state to its cost of living index.
Two states came out in the top three for both RNs and LPNs - Arizona and Nevada. The top three states for RNs were Nevada, Minnesota, and Arizona. For LPNs, the top three were Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada. For both types of nurses, states in the West accounted for at least half of the top ten.
