Licensure by Examination Applications:

RN/LPN: Apply Online

Fees:

RN Application Fee: $100.00

LPN Application $60.00 (add $20.00 for IV therapy/ expanded role licensure).

Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Check Processing fee: $75.00

Fees are non-refundable and payable to the Mississippi Board of Nursing.

Highlights:

  • Applications for the state of Mississippi are submitted on paper. While you must fill out the application on your computer, then you must print it and notarize it before mailing it in.
  • Fingerprints and a federal criminal background checks are required.
  • Submitting the application for licensure by examination does NOT register you for the NCLEX. Applicants must register and pay separately for the exam by going to: www.pearsonvue.com.

As part of the application process, you must:

  • Register with Pearson Vue to take the NCLEX exam. You must do this during the last semester of your nursing program and before sending in the licensure application.
  • Request that a final, official transcript showing the graduation date and the degree obtained be sent directly to the Board from you nursing school. If you have not yet graduated your school may submit official documentation (letterhead with school seal) of eligibility to graduate. A transcript must be sent within 30 days of graduation.
  • Have the application form notarized. Take the completed, UNSIGNED application to a Notary Public. A Notary Public is someone who is licensed to verify the authenticity of a person's signature. DO NOT SIGN your application until you take it to be notarized. The Notary Public has to watch you sign the application.

  • Submit the application form along with the fee and any additional supporting documents.

Licensing Process

Once the application, fee, fingerprints, and supporting documents have been reviewed, the Board will determine if you are eligible to test.

If you are eligible to take the NCLEX, you will receive an authorization to test (ATT) and instructions on scheduling the test.

When passing NCLEX results are received by the board, a license will be issued within 5-7 business days. Wallet cards will not be sent out. Applicants may access their license information at the Board's website.

About Temporary Permits:
The Mississippi Board of Nursing does NOT issue temporary permits for new graduates prior to licensure.
