Fees

Fees are non-refundable and payable to "Office of the Secretary of State"

Highlights:

  • Applications for the state of Vermont are submitted on paper.
  • All applicants must provide a valid Social Security Number
  • Fingerprints and criminal background checks are NOT required.
  • Submitting the application for licensure by examination does NOT register you for the NCLEX. Applicants must register and pay separately for the exam by going to: www.pearsonvue.com.

As part of the application process, you must:

  • Register with Pearson Vue to take the NCLEX exam. You should do this before sending in the licensure application.
  • When requested by the Board, print the Verification of Education Form (found in the application packet) and take it to your nursing school's Director . The school must complete the form and place it in a sealed envelope.

The school may send the form directly to the Board OR give the form to the applicant. The applicant would then submit it, unopened, along with the application.

Official transcripts are NOT required if the nursing program was completed in the State of Vermont.

  • Make a photocopy of your current driver's license, government issued ID or passport, and submit it along with the application.
  • Submit the application form along with all needed supporting documents.

Licensing Process

Once the application, fee, and supporting documents have been reviewed, the Board will determine if you are eligible to test.

If you are eligible to take the NCLEX, you will receive an authorization to test (ATT) and instructions on scheduling the test. You have 90 days to complete the test.

When passing NCLEX results are received by the board, a license will be issued.

About Temporary Permits:
Temporary permits, which allow you to practice as nurse while NCLEX results are pending may be issued within 30 days of program completion.

The permit is valid for 90 days and non-renewable.

The permit is void when NCLEX results become available.

Special Accommodations:
If you require special testing accommodations due to disability you must provide written notice to the Board. State the reason you need special accommodations and the type of accommodations you are requesting. Supporting documentation must also be submitted including:

  • A letter from an appropriate professional confirming and describing the disability and stating what accommodations are needed.
  • A letter from your nursing education program indicating what modifications, if any, were granted by the program.

This documentation must be submitted along with the application form.
